Hope is work

There are friends around me who are despairing of the current situation.

This helps no one.

The only way we can make needed changes is for everyone to pull together, full strength, to overcome the evil being done.

Because, to steal a line from the other side, all lives matter. Black, brown, beige, immigrant, children, elderly matter just as much as middle age white men.

It’s time to put the power with the masses, not the money.

It’s still bigotry

If you are indignant about people kneeling is silent protest but not about the inequalities in this country, ask yourself why.

As a kid I remember being taunted with “dirty Jew” and other phrases. But I have a choice, I’m white, no one needs to know I’m a minority. Though to be honest, I “look like a Jew” with kinky hair and olive skin. People with skin other than beige have no choice. We shouldn’t have to try and hide our heritage.

Everyone pontificating about the sanctity of the national anthem should stop for a moment and think about worrying about your child every time they left the house just because they are a minority.

Just think about it,

And then get off your soap box so you can help fix this damned mess

What will you do

Everything we do has a ripple effect.

For making things good.

For creating harm.

For building someone up or

crushing them like an insignificant bug.

Which side of history (even your tiny corner of history) do you want to be on?

What is your legacy?

Hopefully my legacy is one of hope

There have been many times I’ve wanted to say stop this week.

To people,

To world events,

Mostly to the atrocities and hate we seem to be heaping on each other.

Just stop…… please

Skill building

There was a wonderful Ted Talk about the difference between practicing and creating art.

So often we forget that there are specific skills we need to learn and master.

New connections between our brain, eyes, and hands that need to be made. All of which takes patience

The upside is we get to make better art and you can’t worry about the state of the nation and skill build at the same time.

Democracy lesson

Here’s my opinion,

If you actually want to discuss politics then you need to be polite.

When you post crap like “all Muslim people are jihadists” I know you’re foolish and there’s no reason to bother with a discussion.

If I were to make derogatory comments about the 45 president you would not take my arguments seriously.

Both sides have many ideals in common, so let’s find common ground for the good of the whole country
