A place belongs forever to whoever claims it hardest, remembers it most obsessively, wrenches it from itself, shapes it, renders it, loves it so radically that he remakes it in his own image.
– Joan Didion
There are some places we visit change us. Some changes seem to be at a cellular level as though who we were before was inconsequential.
Lake Tahoe is this place for me. I am awed, calmed, exhilarated and made in some way whole again every time I see its beauty.
These spaces exist for each and everyone of us. In our darkest moments, in those moments when we are not sure how we will continue to breathe, the memory of a treasured place can bring us back to our center. To concentrate even for a short time on the memory of a beautiful place stops the terrible cycle of worry, grief or anxiety.
why not try….. for just a moment
